Demonized by conservative Muslims for speaking out against the injustices of the Islamic extremists, Ali lives under a constant death threat. Born in Somalia and raised as a devout Muslim, subjected to genital mutilation and a forced marriage, Ali fled to the Netherlands. Infidel, her personal story, is the subject of her talk. She will be interviewed by Dr. Robert Wexler, president of American Jewish University.

Rabbi Daniel Gordis, Senior Vice President of the Shalem Center in Israel, will be interviewed by Rabbi David Wolpe of Sinai Temple. Rabbi Gordis has written and lectured throughout the world on Israeli society and the challenges facing the Jewish state. The evenings discussion will focus on Rabbi Gordis new book, Saving Israel: How the Jewish People Can Win a War That May Never End.

Amos Oz has published numerous articles about the Arab/Israeli conflict, campaigning for a compromise based on mutual recognition and co-existence. His latest novel, A Tale of Love and Darkness, was published in Hebrew and translated into 34 different languages. He will be interviewed by Rob Eshman, Editor-in-Chief of the Jewish Journal of Greater Los Angeles.

The seventh annual mock trial.

The seventh annual mock trial summons you to be the jury in the case of The People vs. King Saul. In a day of extraordinary courtroom drama, King Saul will be tried for the attempted murder of David. The day begins with the study of Biblical text with Rabbi Ed Feinstein. The trial, which follows, will pit outstanding prosecutor, Laurie Levenson, against formidable defense attorney, Erwin Chemerinsky, and then you will render your verdicts. As the culmination of our Celebration of Books, pre-eminent UC Berkeley scholar, Professor Robert Alter will wrap up our program with a brief presentation entitled: The Transparent King (Saul) and the Opaque Rival (David).
